Sikkim Manipal University  of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Gangtok is incorporated under the State Legislative Act (Act IX of  1995) by the Government of Sikkim and is recognised by the  Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University  Grants Commission under Section 2(f). The University offers  a variety of technological courses in engineering branch.  Medical courses are in the offing. Distance learning would  be its main strength for offering need based innovative  and job oriented programmes and flexibility its cornerstone  in terms of course offerings, delivery systems and processes.  The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding  with IIEE for the advanced transfer of knowledge and delivery  of the course programmes in the areas of Ecology and Environment;  Disaster Mitigation; Sustainable Development and similar  other courses in joint cooperation.
